Our October 2011 trip took us on
a return to the island paradise of
The Maldives. It was over
thirteen years since our last visit and this time we chose the
island resort of
Baros for what was a
very restful luxury holiday. Baros, although a small island, is
home to three superb restaurants, including the world famous
gourmet eatery the
Lighthouse
Restaurant. We visited
Male,
the capital of the Maldives, and
located just 20 minutes by speedboat from Baros. Yes, the fish in the pictures are
sharks, though we were assured that they were just
Black-tipped
Reef Sharks that were completely harmless. The largest that we
saw was about 1.5 metres in length and they appeared every night
to keep us entertained, attracted by the lights, they swam
in the shallow waters around the jetty areas. On our return we stopped for a
couple of nights in the ultra modern city of
Dubai, where we
stayed at the
Park Hyatt Hotel, located beside the Dubai Yacht Club on the
famous Creek. We travelled the entire length of the newly
completed Metro, just sightseeing, and then stopped off at the
Dubai Mall located beneath the
Burj Khalifa Tower, the
world's highest building
at over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories. Click on a thumbnail to see the picture
