Our 2003 trip took us to the South American country of Chile. We started in the capital, Santiago, before flying south to the Chilean Lake District. Where we started at Puerto Montt, site of the World's Worst Earthquake in 1960 at 9.6 on the Richter Scale. We stayed in the town of Puerto Varas on the edge on Lake Llanquihue with it's incredible views of the snow topped Osorno and Calbuco Volcanos. A road trip around the lake took us to the the Petrohue Falls and the spectactular Lake Todos los Santos and the small town of Frutillar. We then took a short six day cruise on the Skorpios III to the south of the country to visit the San Raphael Glacier. The six day cruise took us through the lovely fjords of Northern Patagonia. We embarked on small boats at the glacier to squeeze between the huge icebergs that break off the glacier wall at a rate of around ten metres per day. To end our trip we took a five hour flight to the most remote island on earth, Easter Island or Rapa Nui as it is known to the locals. There we saw many of the one thousand Moai or Stone Statues that are dotted all around the island. Click above for Easter Island Photos
