Our June 2000 holiday took us on a tour that included the wonderful Galapagos Islands, Ecuador and Colombia. The Galapagos Islands with their unique ecology, sit exactly on the Equator and some 600 miles west of the coast of  South America.

We flew from London via Bogota, capital of Colombia, then on to Quito, and Guayaquil in Equador, and then out to the islands at Baltra, where we embarked on the MV Ambasador 1 for a seven night cruise around the islands. The rest of the holiday took us by road down the Pan-American Highway through the 'Avenue of the Volcanos' to Banos, Riobamba, and then returning to Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This trip through the high Andes, took us past the Cotopaxi and Chimborazo (20,700 feet) volcanos.

This was followed by three days in the 'World Heritage City' of  Cartagena on the Caribbean Coast of Colombia.

The wildlife in the islands where Charles Darwin came up with his theories on the 'Origin of the Species', has no fear of man and do not run or fly away when approached. This makes photography very easy as you do not need large telephoto lenses to get remarkably close-up shots. I'm sure that they actually 'pose' for the camera.

The wildlife comprised of Blue Footed Boobies, Sea-lions, Marine and Land Iguanas. Giant Tortoises, Frigate Birds, Waved Albatrosses, Flightless Cormorants, Penguins and Pelicans.
